The contributions of African-American scientists include advancements in physics, medicine, biology, and computer science. The struggle to receive a decent education and overcome racial discrimination made these hard-won achievements. Jeff C. Young discusses the lives and accomplishments of scientists who persevered in the name of science. The African-American scientists profiled include Benjamin Banneker, George R. Carruthers, Charles R. Notable Black american Scientists provides narrative biographical entries on 250 Black American scientists. Arranged alphabetically, each entry averages two to three pages in length and contains header information providing person's name, birth/death years and major field of endeavor. The rest of the entry focuses on scientific achievements and provides personal and career information.
